Loose, airy shrub which can forms dense thickets. Majority of the pinnately compound fine-textured foliage is on the upper third of the plant. Flowers small, purple to dark blue with orange stamens extending beyond the single petal, in narrow spikelike clusters at or near the ends of the branchlets.
