Emergent

A type of plant that is typically found in a marsh, a wetland community where trees are absent and there is standing water most of the year.  The depth of the water controls the types of plants that grow there. Emergent species are rooted in the underlying soils of the marsh and their stems rise above the water rather than float upon it.
